Awards Ceremony: The hard work of many of Brisbane's schools and local community groups to keep their community clean and litter-free was acknowledged at the Spotless Suburbs and Schools awards ceremony on Tuesday, 20 August, presented by the Honourable Lord Mayor Graham Quirk.
The overall Brisbane Spotless Suburbs and Schools winners for 2013 are:
BRISBANE'S SPOTLESS SUBURB: Wilston Grange Business Community (Central Ward)
Key achievements included a litter education program with Wilston State School, a plastic shopping bag elimination program and local Bushcare groups maintaining areas along Kedron Brook.
BRISBANE'S SPOTLESS PRIMARY SCHOOL: Zillmere State School (Brackenridge Ward)
Zillmere State School provided a supportive learning environment for the whole surrounding community. Specific programs undertaken by this school included mulching, a nature walk featuring native plants and water tanks on the school toilet block.
BRISBANE'S SPOTLESS SECONDARY SCHOOL: Mansfield State High School (Wishart Ward)
Mansfield State High School takes pride in the school and surrounding environment. This school has an active environmental committee and students take positive measures to ensure that their school is always kept litter-free.
