Since 1968, Keep Australia Beautiful (Queensland) has inspired generations of Queenslanders to make a difference in their local communities.

Contrary to popular belief, we are a non-government funded, volunteer-driven registered charity. We are not a Government Department (like our Western Australian cousin) and we don't receive any recurrent funding - we are supported by a dedicated network of committed members, donors, and sponsors.

The organisation had its beginnings in the second half of the 1960s when the RACQ (Royal Automobile Club of Queensland) established a voluntary committee representing local and state governments, community and service associations, and the business and commerce sector to deliver three successive anti-litter campaigns to Queensland.

The then Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Clem Jones, launched that campaign in 1968, which, within a few years, grew to become the Keep Queensland Tidy Committee, then later to become known as the Keep Australia Beautiful Council (Qld). 

A few years later, in 1971, the first official Annual General Meeting of the Keep Australia Beautiful Council (Qld) was held in a canteen at the RACQ headquarters in Brisbane.

Since then, tens of thousands of dedicated Queenslanders and hundreds of committed local councils have worked towards improving their local environments through participation in our iconic programs; Tidy Towns Clean Beaches, Adopt-a-Spot, and most recently the Cleaner Greener Schools accreditation (formerly known as the Green and Healthy Schools awards).

In 2013, as we proudly celebrated 45 years of litter prevention education across Queensland, our Board and members decided with that milestone came the need for a refresh, resulting in the Keep Queensland Beautiful brand being born.

Due to funding constraints from both Government and Industry, in early 2015, Keep Queensland Beautiful merged with other like-minded community organisations, the Queensland Litter Prevention Alliance and the Queensland Youth Environment Council.
